Zani review

Review updated:

Zani is a 5-Star Spectro Gauntlets main DPS from Version 2.3, built around three named resources: Redundant Energy, Blaze, and Heliacal Ember. Her real damage comes from the four Heavy Slash attacks she unlocks in Inferno Mode, and those hits are dual-typed: the kit counts them as Heavy Attack damage and Spectro Frazzle damage at the same time. Her solo damage profile makes the priority obvious: Heavy Attack 66.73%, Resonance Liberation 17.44%, Outro 4.13%, Resonance Skill 5.35%, Echo 3.90%, Basic Attack 1.74%, Intro 0.70%. In her tested teams she is the carry, taking roughly 62%–88% of the team's damage depending on who stands next to her.

One fact shapes everything else in this review: Zani never inflicts Spectro Frazzle herself. Her Blaze engine runs on a teammate applying it, and her kit converts that teammate's stacks into her own resource. She is a carry who arrives without her own fuel.

The live Team DPS section is the authority for Zani's current tested compositions, ordering, DPS values, and rotations. It updates from the validated Team DPS projection instead of freezing those values in this review.

Quick Verdict

At S0, Zani is mechanically complete. Her parry stance, her conversion, Inferno Mode, and the full Heavy Slash chain all work with no sequences, and her rotation is one string you can learn in an afternoon.

The pulling advice is still narrow: she is not worth pulling unless you own Phoebe or intend to pull her too. Zani converts Spectro Frazzle into Blaze, and Blaze is what her Heavy Slashes spend, so the character applying that status decides how much of Zani actually exists in a fight. The tested rotations show the gap plainly: with Phoebe she reaches her Outro carrying 16 Heliacal Ember stacks, and with Rover: Spectro she reaches it with 7. Her tested teams sit in the lower half of the validated projection. The rest of this review is for owners, for players pulling the Zani and Phoebe pair together, and for returning players who want to build her correctly.

Best teams4/10 — one specific structure in the lower half of the validated projection
General teams2/10 — her own kit produces 60 Blaze per rotation, while one Nightfall consumes up to 40
F2P valueComplete at S0, but the pull only makes sense as part of the Zani and Phoebe pair
Whale valueReal — 147% at S2 and 296% at S6, but it buys a lower-half structure

How Zani Works

Zani plays in three stages per field stay: charge the Skill, convert the team's Spectro Frazzle, then spend Blaze inside Inferno Mode.

Stage 1: Redundant Energy and the parry Skill. Her base Resonance Skill is Standard Defense Protocol: she attacks and enters a block stance. Pressing Normal Attack at the right time gives Basic Attack Stage 3, recovers 10 Redundant Energy, and Stagnates the target on hit. If an enemy attacks her during the block stance, that instance of damage is reduced by 100%, nearby targets are Stagnated, and she counters with Pinpoint Strike, which also cuts the target's Vibration Strength by 5%.

She holds up to 100 Redundant Energy, gained from Normal Attack hits, Intro hits, casting Standard Defense Protocol, and casting Pinpoint Strike. When she is not in Inferno Mode and Redundant Energy is full, her Skill becomes Crisis Response Protocol. Hold the Skill to enter Ready Stance, where she is immune to interruption and, through her Inherent Skill Fear No Pain, takes 40% less damage. Release the button and she consumes all Redundant Energy for Targeted Action. If an enemy hits her during the stance instead, she performs Forcible Riposte, which negates that damage completely and takes another 5% off the target's Vibration Strength.

Either finisher does the same three things on hit: it inflicts 1 stack of Heliacal Ember, grants 10 Blaze, and puts her into Sunburst, which amplifies the Spectro Frazzle damage she deals by 20%. Because her Heavy Slashes are tagged as Spectro Frazzle damage, Sunburst is a buff on her main damage source, and it is why the tested rotation always spends the Skill before the Liberation.

Her rotation opens on her Intro for two reasons: it feeds Redundant Energy toward that finisher, and her Inherent Skill Quick Response grants 12% Spectro DMG Bonus for 14 seconds every time she casts it.

Stage 2: the conversion, which is the whole character. Her Forte Circuit reads: when Zani is in the team and a nearby Resonator inflicts Spectro Frazzle on a target, she immediately consumes all Spectro Frazzle stacks, triggers their damage right away, and converts them one for one into Heliacal Ember. Every converted stack grants her 5 Blaze. Heliacal Ember caps at 60 stacks, each lasting 6 seconds, and those stacks count as Spectro Frazzle stacks for the Eternal Radiance Sonata effect.

Two consequences that a new player will not guess from the description:

  • The team's Spectro Frazzle stops behaving like a damage-over-time status while Zani is present. She eats the stacks as they land. The damage is not lost, it fires immediately instead of ticking, but the status no longer sits on the enemy.
  • Her Blaze budget is set by someone else. Her own kit gives her 10 Blaze from Targeted Action or Forcible Riposte and 50 from her Liberation. Everything above that 60 is a teammate's Spectro Frazzle, at 5 Blaze per stack.

Stage 3: Inferno Mode and the Heavy Slashes. Resonance Liberation Rekindle raises her Blaze cap from 100 to 150, grants 50 Blaze, and enters Inferno Mode. Inside Inferno Mode she can no longer gain Redundant Energy, so the Skill work has to be finished first, and four Heavy Slashes become available: Daybreak, Dawning, Nightfall, and Lightsmash.

Nightfall is the payoff hit. It consumes up to 40 Blaze on hit, and every point of Blaze raises its damage multiplier. Daybreak and Dawning chain into it, and holding the Skill in Inferno Mode enters Ready Stance again, with the same parry conversion into Lightsmash if an enemy hits her. Her second Liberation, The Last Stand, unlocks when Blaze drops below 30 or after 8 seconds in Inferno Mode, and casting it ends the mode.

Standard rotation — about 12.7 seconds of Zani field time:

Intro > Skill > Basic 3 > Skill (cancel animation) > Liberation > Echo > Heavy 1, 2, 3 > Heavy 1, 2, 3 > Liberation > Outro

The two Heavy 1, 2, 3 blocks are Daybreak, Dawning, Nightfall, so this route lands two Nightfall hits. This exact string appears in the tested Phoebe team, the Iuno team, and the Chisa team, so she has one rotation to learn across most of her structures.

Long Hold Skill route — about 15.82 seconds of Zani field time:

Intro > Skill > Basic 3 > Skill (cancel animation) > Liberation > Echo > Hold Skill > Heavy 1, 3 > Heavy 1, 2, 3 > Heavy 1, 2 > Heavy 3 > Liberation > Outro

The mechanism behind the extra hit is a single kit clause: when Ready Stance ends, she immediately performs Heavy Slash - Nightfall. So instead of releasing the Skill early for Daybreak, you hold it and let the stance run out, and the free Nightfall at the end gives her a third Nightfall in the rotation. It costs about 3.1 extra seconds of field time and the tested team card rates it as the harder route. Use it when the fight lets Zani stand still; the standard route is the default.

Her Outro is not a normal Outro buff. Beacon For the Future deals 150% of her ATK, removes every Heliacal Ember stack on the target, and adds 10% damage per stack removed, which makes the tested 16-stack cast worth 150% multiplied by 2.6. That damage is also counted as Spectro Frazzle damage. Then it leaves a mark: the Spectro damage that other Resonators in the team deal to that target is amplified by 20% for 20 seconds. Read that carefully, because it is unusual in both directions. It is better than a standard Outro amplification, since it is not tied to the incoming Resonator and does not die when someone swaps out. It is also narrower, because it only covers Spectro damage, so an Aero or Havoc teammate receives nothing from it.

Failure points worth knowing at S0:

  • Ready Stance and the Nightfall hit can be interrupted. S1 fixes Nightfall specifically.
  • No applier means no rotation. With only her own 60 Blaze, she gets roughly one Nightfall and nothing behind it.
  • Redundant Energy is locked in Inferno Mode, so a Targeted Action that was not set up before the Liberation cannot be recovered inside it.
  • Heliacal Ember stacks last 6 seconds each, so the applier's throughput, not just their total, is what she is paid on.

Build Priorities

Build her as a Heavy Attack and Spectro damage dealer. Two thirds of her output is Heavy Attack damage, and the Spectro Frazzle tag on those same hits is what her signature weapon, her Sunburst buff, and her set all key off.

Solo damage profile:

  • Heavy Attack: 66.73%
  • Resonance Liberation: 17.44%
  • Resonance Skill: 5.35%
  • Outro: 4.13%
  • Echo: 3.90%
  • Basic Attack: 1.74%
  • Intro: 0.70%
  • Sub-stat priority: Crit Rate > Crit DMG > ATK% > Heavy Attack DMG Bonus > Energy Regen.
  • Talent priority: Resonance Skill, Forte Circuit, and Resonance Liberation to Lv. 10; Normal Attack and Intro Skill to Lv. 6.

Build targets. The page gives two sets, and the difference between them is a teaching point rather than a detail:

With Rover: Spectro — 3 or 4 Nightfalls

ATK — Cost 3 Spectro / Spectro2,150–2,250
ATK — Cost 3 ATK / Spectro2,450–2,550
Crit Rate70%–75%
Crit DMG270%–280%
Energy Regen115%–120%
Heavy Attack DMG20%–35%

With Shorekeeper — 2 Nightfalls

ATK — Cost 3 Spectro / Spectro2,150–2,250
ATK — Cost 3 ATK / Spectro2,450–2,550
Crit Rate53%–55%
Crit DMG270%–280%
Energy Regen125%–127%
Heavy Attack DMG20%–35%

The Crit Rate gap is buff coverage, not a different build philosophy. Her set already hands her 20% Crit Rate, and Shorekeeper's Stellarealm adds up to 12.5% Crit Rate and 25% Crit DMG to the whole party on top of that, so the Shorekeeper column asks for less from her own gear. Read the table as the Crit Rate she needs before those two buffs, not the number she fights with.

Echo set: 5-piece Eternal Radiance. The 2-piece is 10% Spectro DMG. The 5-piece gives 20% Crit Rate for 15 seconds on inflicting Spectro Frazzle, and 15% Spectro DMG Bonus for 15 seconds when attacking enemies carrying 10 stacks. Her Forte text is written to feed it: Heliacal Ember stacks are counted as Spectro Frazzle stacks for this set specifically, which is how she clears the 10-stack threshold. The tested Zani, Phoebe and Chisa card confirms the Crit Rate half is live on her, since it reads her 75.5% build as 95.5% with the Sonata Set Effect.

Main Echo: Capitaneus. It gives 12% Spectro DMG Bonus and 12% Heavy Attack DMG Bonus, and that second half lands directly on the 66.73% of her damage that is Heavy Attack. Nightmare: Mourning Aix is the bigger single hit at 273.60% and it gives 12% Spectro DMG Bonus, but its headline effect, 100% more damage against enemies inflicted by Spectro Frazzle, sits awkwardly on the one character who removes those stacks the instant they land. The kit only promises that Heliacal Ember counts as Spectro Frazzle for the Eternal Radiance set, not for everything that checks the status. Capitaneus is the safer choice.

Two readings come out of that list. Cost 4 Crit DMG only wins while her Crit Rate holds up. At 58.3% it is the best row on the page; at 45.4% it falls to 89.51%, below the Crit Rate piece at 98.71%. So Cost 4 Crit DMG is for accounts with genuinely good Crit Rate sub-stats, and Cost 4 Crit Rate is the safe default, which is exactly what the tested Chisa team runs. On Cost 3, comparing the three rows that share the same Cost 4 and the same 53.5% Crit Rate, 2 Spectro at 96.10% leads Spectro/ATK at 95.08% and ATK/ATK at 91.11%. The top two are about one point apart, so sub-stat quality decides between them; the double ATK setup is the one to avoid. Both Cost 1 slots are ATK.

Weapon: pull Blazing Justice, her signature, at R1. She is a main DPS, and a main DPS lives on personal damage. At R1 it gives 12% ATK, and casting Basic Attack grants 8% DEF ignore plus 50% Spectro Frazzle DMG amplification for 6 seconds, refreshing each time it retriggers. That amplification is aimed at exactly the tag her Heavy Slashes carry, which is why nothing else on the list is close. The page's comparison at R1: Blazing Justice 100%, Tragicomedy 84.75%, Verity's Handle 79.79%, Moongazer's Sigil 73.32%, Abyss Surges 71.25%.

If you do not have it, Tragicomedy is the tested backup plan, and the page explains both sides of it: its 48% Heavy Attack DMG Bonus is close to the 50% on the signature, but its Crit Rate can overcap a well-built Zani, with a 75% base Crit Rate becoming 99.3% with the weapon and 111.8% alongside Shorekeeper. Verity's Handle and Moongazer's Sigil both carry the same overcap risk and buff Resonance Liberation, which is only 17.44% of her damage. Among the 4-stars, the page puts Aether Strike at 67.32%, Legend of Drunken Hero at 66.73%, Celestial Spiral at 63.87%, and Stonard at 61.49%, all at R5. They run her rotation; they do not carry it.

Team Fit & Account Value

Her number 1 team is Zani, Phoebe and Shorekeeper. Both tested variants use that trio, one with the standard two-Nightfall rotation and one with the long Hold Skill route, and it is the structure where her damage share sits at roughly 84%–88%. Everything else is an alternative.

Use the live Team DPS section for the current tested compositions, ordering, DPS values, equipment, and rotations. Those cards update from the validated Team DPS projection and are the only source for mutable team results on this page.

Phoebe is not a partner, she is the engine. In her Confession status she applies Spectro Frazzle in volume: her Forte heavy attack Starflash applies 5 stacks, her Resonance Liberation applies 8, and Utter Confession, the Forte Skill that puts her into Confession in the first place, applies 1 more. Every one of those stacks becomes a Heliacal Ember and 5 Blaze for Zani. Her Confession Outro then grants Silent Prayer to the Resonator on the field, which reduces nearby targets' Spectro RES by 10%, grants 100% Spectro Frazzle DMG Amplification, and extends Spectro Frazzle's damage interval by 50%, for 30 seconds or until Phoebe returns to Absolution. That Frazzle amplification lands on Zani's Heavy Slashes, so Phoebe is feeding her resource and multiplying the hits it pays for. One tested detail worth carrying: in the Iuno team the note records that Phoebe's Outro still activates for Zani even when the swap does not go directly to her.

Shorekeeper is the tested third slot, and her job is healing plus the Stellarealm's party-wide up to 12.5% Crit Rate and up to 25% Crit DMG, both scaling with her own Energy Regen, which is why Zani's own Crit Rate target drops in that column of the build table. Her damage share in these teams is under 3%, so do not judge her by it.

Chisa is the tested alternative third slot, and the reason is precise. Her Outro's Thread of Bane grants 18% DEF ignore against her marked target, but only to characters who inflict a Negative Status or deal Negative Status damage. Zani's Heavy Slashes are Heavy Attack damage and Spectro Frazzle damage at the same time, so they qualify and the DEF ignore applies to them. It does not increase the Spectro Frazzle status's own tick damage, because that damage comes from the status rather than from Zani's hit. Chisa also brings her own sub-DPS damage, around 17%–18.5% of the team, and a team shield.

Iuno is the interesting near-miss. Her Outro gives the incoming Resonator 50% Heavy Attack DMG Amplification for 14 seconds, which is about as well-aimed a buff as Zani can receive. But her other buff, Blessing of the Wan Light at 4% all damage amplification per stack up to 10 stacks, only triggers when the receiving Resonator gains a Shield inside her Full Moon domain, and Zani has no shield anywhere in her kit. That is exactly what the tested team note means when it says Zani does not receive the full benefit of Iuno's buffs. It is also a two-way miss, since Zani's Outro amplification only covers Spectro damage and Iuno is Aero.

Rover: Spectro is the free applier, and free is what he is. His Forte Skill Resonating Spin applies 2 stacks of Spectro Frazzle and his Resonance Liberation applies 6, and his Outro grants no damage buff at all. His Shimmer does stop Frazzle stacks decaying over time, which matters less next to Zani than it looks, because she consumes them as they land. The tested rotation reaches Zani's Outro carrying 7 Heliacal Ember stacks against 16 in the Phoebe team, and that team is her weakest tested structure. He makes Zani function on an account without Phoebe. He does not make her good.

Her honest limits:

  • She inflicts no Spectro Frazzle, so her partner slot is effectively fixed to a Frazzle applier, and in practice to Phoebe.
  • Her Outro's 20% amplification only covers Spectro damage from other Resonators, so it gives nothing to an Aero, Havoc, or Fusion teammate.
  • Her conversion consumes the team's Spectro Frazzle the moment it lands, which changes what a Frazzle partner's own kit is doing beside her.
  • At S0 her Ready Stance and her Nightfall hit can both be interrupted.
  • Opportunity cost runs through Phoebe. She is the piece that makes Zani work, and she has her own uses elsewhere.

Sequence Value

Zani is complete at S0. The Skill loop, the conversion, Inferno Mode, all four Heavy Slashes, and both halves of her Liberation function with no sequences. The page's sequence damage chart: S0 100% → S1 120% → S2 147% → S3 165% → S4 178% → S5 185% → S6 296%, with the S6 figure dropping to 225% if the extra 70 Blaze it restores is never spent.

  • S1 — When the Alarm Clock Rings (3/5): Targeted Action and Forcible Riposte grant 50% Spectro DMG Bonus for 14 seconds, and Heavy Slash - Nightfall can no longer be interrupted. The damage is welcome; the interrupt immunity on her single biggest hit is the real reason to want it.
  • S2 — Stale Bread With Energy Drink (5/5): 20% Crit Rate, plus an 80% multiplier increase on Targeted Action and Forcible Riposte. The Crit Rate is the part that matters, because it frees her Echo slots to chase Crit DMG and ATK instead of patching her Crit Rate. The chart's 120% to 147% is her biggest jump outside S6.
  • S3 — Each Day A New Commute (4/5): In Inferno Mode, every 1 Blaze consumed adds 8% to the last-stage multiplier of the next The Last Stand, capped at 1200%. This is the node that turns her exit Liberation into a real hit rather than a mode-ender, and it scales with the same resource she is already spending.
  • S4 — More Efficiency, Less Drama (3/5): Her Intro grants 20% ATK to all Resonators in the team for 30 seconds. Her only team-wide stat buff, and unlike her Outro it is not restricted to Spectro teammates.
  • S5 — Delivered In Full On Time (1/5): Rekindle's multiplier increases by 120%. Rekindle is her entry hit, not where her damage lives, and the chart agrees: 178% to 185% is the smallest step on the whole board.
  • S6 — First Things First? Clock Out! (5/5): Her ceiling. All four Heavy Slashes gain 40%, every Blaze consumed adds 40% to Nightfall's multiplier on hit, she restores 70 Blaze once per Inferno Mode when Blaze falls below 70, and she survives a fatal blow for the first 8 seconds of Inferno Mode. The chart's 296% assumes you actually spend that restored Blaze; 225% is what it is worth if you do not.

Realistic stopping points: S0 is the honest one for most accounts. S1 if you play her regularly and lose Nightfall hits to interruption. S2 is the first stopping point that changes her build rather than her numbers. S6 is the whale ceiling and nothing between S2 and S6 is worth targeting on its own.

Pull Value

Pull Zani if:

  • You already own Phoebe, or you are pulling the two of them together and treating them as one purchase.
  • You enjoy her gameplay specifically: the parry stance, banking Blaze, and dumping it into a Nightfall. It is a genuinely distinct rhythm and no other character plays like it.
  • You are collecting, and completion matters more to you than power.

Skip or delay Zani if:

  • You do not own Phoebe and are not planning to pull her. Rover: Spectro keeps Zani functional, and the tested stack counts show what that costs.
  • You want a carry that brings its own engine. Zani's damage is downstream of a teammate's status application in a way most main DPS characters' damage is not.
  • You are F2P or a low spender counting every pull. Her best structure wants her signature, Phoebe, and a third support on top of her.
  • You are returning to the game and remember her as a top Spectro carry. She was, back in Version 2.3. The game has moved on, so check the live Team DPS section before spending anything on her.
